It wasn't until I caught my reflection in the window and noticed the uneven tan on my face that I truly understood how much UV damage I was absorbing just by sitting near my windows. My Edinburgh flat faces south and gets hammered by sunlight from midday until sunset. I'd always loved the light – it's why I rented the place – but after a few years, my beautiful velvet curtains had faded to a sad, dusty pink, my hardwood floor had bleached patches, and even my cat's favourite sleeping spot had a permanent sun-bleached outline. I started avoiding my living room in the afternoons, which defeated the whole point of having a bright, airy flat. Then a friend who works in a museum casually mentioned they use UV film to protect artwork, and I realised I could apply the same principle to my home. I found https://www.tintfit.com/shop/uv-protection and ordered a roll. Installation was a doddle – soapy water, a squeegee, and half an hour of my time. The film is totally invisible, but the difference is massive. No more fading, no more uneven tans, and the room actually feels cooler. My flat is still flooded with gorgeous light, but now it's safe light. I should have done this years ago.
